9th grade service

For my first service requirement in 9th grade, I made tissue paper flowers for an exhibit at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. These flowers were for their annual benefit to show the Art in the museum. I completed this service requirement on October 4th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. I had a great experience making flowers with my classmates who were also volunteering. I learned how to make simple tissue flowers in a variety of different ways. I ended up not being as terrible as I thought I would be at this process, and, of course, Leah Clancy — the head of the activities — was really funny and taught us well.

For my second service requirement in 9th grade, I volunteered at the Summer Opportunities Fair. I helped run the face-painting booth and painted kids’ faces for a few hours; I painted a dragon, a horse, and a pink butterfly. I learned many things with this project, especially how to deal with little kids. I had a really fun experience, and I loved helping the school. I have used my face-painting skills at several other Westridge events including the Community Picnic (tattoos and henna) and at subsequent Summer Opportunities Fairs.
